Tell me a little bit about your background – how did you get to where you are today?

I grew up in Jakarta and three years ago decided to quit my corporate job and move out from the big durian. My husband and I moved to Yogyakarta and stayed there for 2,5 years and now we are living in Bali. It has been 5,5 months interesting life in Bali.

At the beginning, blogging about travel was just a hobby and side project that I did after I quit my job. The idea was to provide information about travelling around Indonesia in English for people visiting the country. Slowly I have turned the blog into a travel business, which combined my passion for travel with my love of being my own boss.

I now earn most of my income from the website – Discover Your Indonesia. I’m slowly trying to diversify my income streams and thinking about hiring my first employee to give me time to focus on more projects and building the business.

What’s the most exciting thing you’re working on right now?

I’m a big fan of learning, trying new things and pushing myself. At the moment I’m just branching out the travel business to different areas of Indonesia, which is a big job (and requires a lot of travelling).

The other project I’m considering is a second website which is focused more on how to grow and monetize a travel blog. After three years I have learned a lot and I want to share some of the lessons I have learned with people who want to make the same change as me (it will also be a good opportunity to network with new people and get different inputs on developing a business).

What is the most important lessons you have learned from your business life?

Don’t be afraid of challenges. Surround yourself with positive people. Be with your tribe who always support you. Also, and this is probably the most important, don’t be afraid to fail. Really, it’s ok. Just make sure you pick yourself back up again for the next round. ‘If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.’ – Fred DeVito.

What do you love the most about yourself?

I am pretty organized, though I can get so easily get distracted (a bit complicated for a freelancer as you need to be focused). I am easy going and love to try new things.

The role fear plays in our daily lives. How do you keep motivated to overcome your fear?

Take a break and think again what is the reason behind all of this. It usually keeps me going in the long haul.

What comes next to your world?

Discover Your Indonesia is going to hire an assistant. Yay!
