Can you tell us about your business? What are you doing exactly?
I quit my job in 2009 and have been supplementing my family budget with my virtual assistant business ever since. Virtual assistants are independent entrepreneurs who work remotely and use technology to deliver services to clients globally. Most work done from their home offices and receive their project instructions by phone, fax, e-mail or even instant message.
Many clients prefer to hire virtual assistants because they want to save their business budget or they need help with a temporary project. Being a virtual assistant, I pay for my own equipment, taxes, training, healthcare and insurance. Industries most often hiring virtual assistants include the real estate, coaching, financial services, accounting and legal.

How did you come up with your business idea?
I left my full-time job as a Data Analyst to start my new career in VA business. I serve clients from all around the world. A lot of my work involves various business aspects such as social media management, website management, handling emails, research, Infusion soft and more. I started to become a Virtual Assistant by joining a freelance website and had to compete with other freelancers around the world. The work has given me much flexibility and allowed me to find my perfect work-life balance. I decided to create my website after I received several recommendations from current clients.
How did you raise money to fund your business?
Depending on the services you plan to provide, you will need to make sure you have all of the software (and hardware) needed to provide your services. The tools and software that I use to provide VA services are covered from several jobs. I set up my virtual office with little investment; high-speed internet, a land line (or Google Voice number), computer, fax machine, scanner, and camera. Graphics programs, accounting programs, and office programs may be needed to get started.
How do you promote your VA services?
I only use social media to promote my services. I also get clients from referrals and leads through my website. I am happy providing my services for notable entrepreneurs such as: Natalie Sisson of The Suitcase Entrepreneur, Tina Chen of Inner Outer Wealth and Andreea Ayers of Launch Grow Joy. I have also other regular clients and keep confidential files for my each client.
What do you see yourself and the business in a 3 years’ time?
Now, I am so excited when I wake up every day to get working with my own accord. I am keen to expand my Virtual Assistant services and to have a trustworthy team of Virtual Assistant. This way, I can have more time to focus on certain projects that I love and also to have more time to travel the world with my family. It is such a great feeling!
What advice do you have for someone looking to start their own business?
You need to find a field that you are passionate about. Don’t quit your full time if you are still not sure with the business you want to pursue. Do some research and have determination to reach your dream.
